Conservative management of broken guidewire: Case reports
Fractures of coronary guidewires during percutaneous coronary intervention within a coronary vessel lumen are a rare but serious complication. There have been several cases reported in the literature, some managed with surgical intervention, others with medical therapy. We present two prospective cases from our center. Both cases were managed successfully with medical therapy.
متن کاملBroken Guidewire Fragment in the Radio-brachial Artery During Transradial Sheath Placement: Percutaneous Retrieval via Femoral Approach
A case in which a 0.014" wire was broken during the sheath placement in the radial artery for transradial coronary procedure is described here, and a successful retrieval of it using conventional methods is also described. Through the left femoral artery, the 6 Fr guiding catheter was advanced down to the tip of the broken wire at the brachial artery, and the distal part of the broken guidewire...
متن کاملEndoscopic Retrieval of a Broken Guidewire During Spinal Surgery.
Since the percutaneous posterolateral approach in treating lumbar disc herniation was introduced in 1973, percutaneous endoscopic lumbar discectomy (PELD) has become a routine minimally invasive spinal procedure. However, as clinical evidence accumulated, several complications of PELD have raised our concerns, including the intraoperative injury to neural, vascular structures and failure of sur...
متن کاملIntrapelvic Protrusion of a Broken Guide Wire Fragment during Fixation of a Femoral Neck Fracture
Breakage of DHS guide wire during surgery and its migration into the pelvis through the hip joint is a rare complication and its removal can be very challenging for the surgeon. We share our experience of a similar case wherein we used an ‘iliofemoral’ approach to successfully remove the broken transfixing guidewire from the hip joint. Although iliofemoral approach is similar to the lateral win...
متن کاملIntrapelvic Protrusion of a Broken Guide Wire Fragment during Fixation of a Femoral Neck Fracture
During fixation of a femoral neck fracture in a 23-year-old male patient with cannulated screws, a broken guide wire fragment inadvertently advanced through the hip joint and protruded into the pelvis. A second surgical approach was needed to remove the broken fragment from the pelvis. Awareness of such a potentially devastating complication will make surgeons more cautious during implementa...
